Stat cards, new widget looks, Developer mode, and achievements

There's a lot new in Tinylytics. You can now put a stat card on your site, give your widgets a new look, and try them out on your own machine before they go live. Achievements arrived too, along with a tidier settings page and a handful of smaller improvements.

Stat cards

A stat card is a small embed that shows your site's views, unique views and a little chart for the last 7 days, 30 days or 12 months. It's a nice way to share how your site is doing on a now page, a colophon or a project page, without sending people off to a full dashboard.

Build yours under Settings → Sharing. The preview updates as you go. There are five looks to choose from: a classic card, terminal, synthwave, Windows 95 and a shop receipt. When you're happy with it, copy the script or the iframe code and paste it into your site. The stat card docs cover all the options.

Every site gets its own private card link, and nobody can load it until you paste the code somewhere. Your public stats don't need to be turned on for it to work. If a copy ends up somewhere you don't want it, press Reset link, and old copies stop working within minutes.

New looks for your widgets

The widgets always did their job, but they all looked much the same. Plenty of you have personal sites with a lot of character, so I wanted the widgets to fit in rather than sit there like plumbing. Each one now has a few looks, and you pick one by adding a single parameter to the embed you already use.

The hit counter has hits_style: a split-flap board (flap), rolling odometer wheels (odometer), a green GeoCities-style LED counter (web) or calculator digits (lcd). Kudos can play a little celebration through kudos_effect. There's a Fun set, a Retro set and a Calm set for quieter sites, plus random if you can't decide, and you can add kudos_sound if you want a sound with it. Uptime has uptime_style: pill is a compact badge with a pulsing dot, and strip shows your last 90 days as a row of bars. Countries has countries_style: a dotted world map (map) or passport ink stamps (stamps).

Your existing embeds look exactly as they did unless you add a style. The hit counter, kudos, uptime and countries docs have the details.

Preview your widgets while you build

Developer mode lets the Tinylytics script and widgets load while you work on your site locally. It works on localhost, .test and .local addresses, and on your private network. Anything that happens there isn't counted, so you can press kudos as often as you like while you try out a style and your stats stay clean. Your live site keeps counting as usual.

Turn it on under Settings → Tracking → What gets counted. See the local development docs.

Achievements

Tinylytics now marks milestones for views, kudos, countries and anniversaries, both for each site and across your account. The first time you open your dashboard after a new milestone, you get a short celebration. Achievements pages in your site and account settings collect every badge, and you can tap any of them to see its effect again. Your weekly email lists the milestones you reached that week, and the ones you passed before achievements existed are already filled in.

If you'd rather not see any of this, switch off "Show achievements" in Account → Preferences. That's also where you'll find the new pixel wallpapers, from rolling hills to a city with traffic and flickering windows, with the odd plane or shooting star crossing the sky.

A tidier settings page

Site settings now has a sidebar of smaller, focused pages, from General and Tracking down to Ignore rules and the Danger zone, so you can go straight to the thing you came to change. Switches save straight away, and text fields save when you press Save. Your account settings got the same treatment. More in the site settings docs.

The team switcher now lives in your avatar menu, with Account settings at the top. While you're working in a team, your avatar shows that team's initial.

A few smaller things

  • ✨ Ignore your own IP: under Settings → Ignore rules → IP addresses, press Add my IP and Tinylytics adds the address you're on, and looks up your other one too, since many connections use both IPv4 and IPv6. Your own visits from home or the office stop showing up in your stats. It applies to visits from then on. See the ignore hits docs.
  • 💅 Dashboard cards: the cards in grid view now show one clear stat with a single trend, your all-time views beside it and a chart that runs edge to edge. Compact rows line up neatly too.
  • ✨ Time to change your mind: when you delete your account, it's cancelled straight away and its data is deleted 14 days later. The email you get has a link to restore it before then, or to delete everything right away. See the account docs.
  • 💅 CRT mode: CRT mode now lays scanlines and a green or amber glow over the screen, and it no longer warps the page underneath. Gotta have some fun, right?

Paste one line. Watch the numbers arrive.
