Your Tinylytics stats just got more accurate. Since September 27th, Tinylytics filters out a large source of automated traffic that had been showing up as visits from Singapore, so your country list, referrers and totals now better reflect the people actually reading your site.
That traffic had come and gone in waves over the past year, and at times it made up a noticeable share of recorded hits. When I looked closely, around 95% of Singapore traffic turned out to be automated rather than human. It was made to look like ordinary browsing, down to faked referrers. If your site recently showed a burst of visits "from Kagi", that was part of it, and those should now stop appearing.
I wanted to remove the bots without losing real readers, and that's how the new filter works. People in Singapore still show up in your stats, just as they should. Some sites on Tinylytics have a genuine audience there, and those visitors are counted as before.
The early results are good. Recorded hits from Singapore are down by more than 90%, and what remains looks like real people.
This work came with a couple of other improvements. Tinylytics' rate limiting and spam protection now see each incoming request more clearly, which makes them more effective across the board. I also tightened how visitor data is handled. An IP address now stays in the internal processing queue for 12 hours at most, and it is still never stored with your hits.
A few things to know:
- Your history is untouched. Past stats stay as they were, so you'll see Singapore traffic settle from September 27th onwards.
- Nothing to set up. The filter runs automatically on every site.
- I'm keeping an eye on it. If you notice anything unusual in your stats, from any country, get in touch and I'll take a look.
