# Monitoring

Analytics tell you how a site is doing. Monitoring tells you whether it is doing anything at all. Tinylytics watches three things on your behalf: whether the site responds, whether its pages are still healthy, and whether the certificate and domain behind it are close to expiring.

The aim throughout is to email you when something is genuinely wrong and stay quiet otherwise. An alerting system you have learned to ignore is worse than none, so downtime has to be confirmed across regions before you hear about it, and content problems have to survive a recheck before they count as problems.
